The Dynamode MX-878 is a remarkably inexpensive USB gaming headset made of chunky black and red plastic. It's a bit awkward to adjust for your head, as the sliders on the headband require a fair bit of force to move. However, they proved to be surprisingly comfortable when fitted to our satisfaction, being lightweight and well padded.
The MX-878s sound quality isn't bad considering the sets price. It has punchy sound with a strong bass and slightly muted treble. Mid-range sounds are pretty clear, so even complex tracks with high-speed guitar sound decent, although not every detail of is present. Nonetheless, we were entirely happy listening to the entire range of music in our collection from pop, to rock, to brooding orchestral themes.
The bass lends itself to gaming, producing satisfying explosions. The MX-878s microphone is clear for both in-game communication and standard voice chat, while the in-line controls on the 2m cable made it easy to mute either the headphones or microphone and adjust volume.
This is a cheap headset, so don't expect the same sort of audio fidelity you'd get from more expensive hardware. However, once you get past the fiddly headband adjustment, this is an entirely respectable budget headset that's good for gaming and chatting. It wins our Budget Buy award.
